Stranger #9: Omar
Omar sat down on a bench in Los Angeles Union Station just as I was taking candids of other people sitting in the lounge. I told him about the 100 Strangers photo challenge and he was totally cool about me taking his photo. He said that someone else had just stopped him and asked to take his photo.
Omar was waiting for the train back to Plamdale. His Mohawk spike rises a good 15 inches. He said that he has to put his hair down for work, so he wears a hat all week. He only spikes it on weekends when he's on his own time.
I have the sense that Omar is just out of high school. Palmdale is pretty rural in California's central valley.
Omar is a self defined "Punk" who came to Los Angeles for the weekend to visit a friend. We had a good talk about punk culture and about how fun it was to be in the heart of Los Angeles and it's diverse cultures.
Later, I told a friend that Omar is an approachable rebel. Truth be told, that's a character quality that I like to find and am most comfortable with, if it's present, in the students I work with.
